Nursing strategies for anxiety management in presurgical patients: bibliographic review

Objectives: To identify effective strategies for anxiety management in presurgical patients implemented by nursing staff. Method: Quantitative research with descriptive documentary approach through bibliographic review conducted between January and June 2023. PRISMA method was used for systematic search in Google Scholar, Scielo, Dialnet, Redalyc and WHO Digital Repository, selecting 20 scientific articles according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Identified interventions include motivational interviews, preoperative dialogue, nursing visits, preoperative education and relaxation techniques. Studies demonstrate significant reduction in anxiety levels when applied in a planned manner in scheduled surgeries. Conclusions: Multiple effective tools exist to reduce presurgical anxiety. Communication, education and specific nursing techniques applied systematically significantly improve patient experience and reduce associated complications.
