Objective: to analyze diabetes mellitus as a risk factor for the development of periodontal disease. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: The interrelationship between oral health and type 2 diabetes is a critical area of research that reveals the importance of a comprehensive approach in the management of both conditions. Evidence suggests that effective oral health management can have a positive impact on glycemic control, and vice versa, highlighting the need for multidisciplinary and accessible interventions to address these conditions holistically.
