Abstract

Objective: To identify risk factors at the oral level due to oral contraceptive use in university students. Method: Descriptive documentary study. Results: One study showed that oral contraceptives may alter thyroid function, which has indirect implications for oral health, as thyroid dysfunction may affect salivary composition and gingival inflammatory response. Conclusion: The results suggest that oral contraceptive use represents a significant risk factor for oral health in female university students. It is essential that health professionals are aware of these risks and that patients receive adequate information to prevent and manage potential oral complications.
