Oral health consequences of taking antihypertensive drugs in patients aged 40-60 years

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the oral health consequences of taking antihypertensive drugs in patients between 40 and 60 years of age. Methods: Descriptive observational study of 79 hypertensive patients at the Augusto Egas health center in the city of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador. Results: 57% of the patients were unaware of the side effects that antihypertensive drugs can cause because many of the doctors did not inform the patient, 40% of the patients were unaware of the side effects and 3% of the patients were aware of the side effects that antihypertensive drugs can cause. Conclusion: Appropriate selection of antihypertensive medications, supported by thorough education and effective communication between health professionals and patients, is essential to ensure optimal adherence to treatment and minimize adverse side effects.
