Objective: The overall objective of the research was to determine the nursing care required for the prevention of pressure ulcers in critically ill patients at the Alfredo Noboa Montenegro Hospital. Method: A survey was conducted among nurses, and a principal component analysis was performed. Results: The main risk factors were decreased mobility (0.928), altered consciousness (0.858), and conditions affecting blood flow (0.816); the most relevant signs included swelling (0.852), blood loss (0.854), and suppuration (0.815); while the priority preventive care measures were protection of pressure points with creams and patches (0.896), use of pillows (0.893), treatment of malnutrition (0.865), and passive and active exercises (0.827). Conclusion: The study identified the essential preventive measures that nursing staff should implement to optimize the conditions of critically ill patients and prevent the development of pressure ulcers.
