Nursing care in the care of the dying cancer patient

Objective: to characterise the importance of nursing care in oncology patients when faced with the stage of agony. Method: Descriptive observational documentary study. Results and conclusion: Care should be directed at alleviating physical, psychological and spiritual symptoms, through the timely assessment of needs such as: pain relief, application of pharmacological therapy, nutrition, relaxation techniques including massage, music therapy, reading, among others; hygienic measures; patient and family education; activities carried out through the correct handling of equipment, medical devices and supplies, as well as developing actions to minimize anxiety, fear and sadness, strengthening the spiritual field, providing the patient and family with a calm environment based on active listening, empathy and respect.
