Objective: to analyze the prevalence of delirium in mechanically ventilated patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, using scales such as the "CAM ICU and the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS). Method: systematic review of 15 scientific articles. Results and conclusions: A high prevalence of delirium was identified in male patients who had required mechanical ventilation and were on sedoanalgesia. It is important that these patients be monitored routinely to detect the appearance of delirium in a timely manner, at least once a day and preferably every 8 to 12 hours, with the CAM-ICU scale, which is an easy instrument and allows the diagnosis of delirium.
