Abstract

Objective: to determine the effects on the health of workers at the Avícola San Francisco poultry farm, due to exposure to organic dust. Method: Descriptive observational. Results and conclusions: The activities inherent to the production process, at Avícola San Francisco, generate particulate matter (PM 2.5 and PM10), in quantities above the limits established by the WHO, and although the exposure time is very short, affections were observed, among which the most frequent were nasal and ocular discomfort. No pulmonary affections were reported, which was verified by spirometry tests that showed no abnormal results. However, the prevalence of work-related symptoms in the staff was lower compared to previous studies. This could be due to the short period of exposure, the existence of a controlled environment in the sheds and the adequate use of personal protective equipment.
