Abstract

Objective: To analyze the efficacy of two complementary anesthetic techniques with articaine 4% in irreversible pulpitis. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results and Conclusion: The block to the inferior alveolar nerve can be successful in up to 33.3% of cases of lower premolars and molars with irreversible pulpitis, which is why the application of complementary anesthetic techniques should be considered to minimize or suppress the pain generated by the opening and instrumentation during endodontic treatment. An anesthetic reinforcement with 4% articaine plus epinephrine of 1:100 000 through an intraligamentary injection or a vestibular infiltrative injection can improve the anesthetic success rate in mandibular posterior dental organs with irreversible pulpitis, where an inferior alveolar nerve block has not worked.
