Abstract

Objective: To analyze the recommended practices for postoperative care after third molar extraction. Method: Descriptive documentary, the population was 18 scientific articles published in databases: PubMed, Scielo, Scopus, WOS. Conclusion: Prevention of infections is essential, especially in patients with risk factors such as immunosuppression or diabetes. The use of prophylactic antibiotics has been a topic of debate; although not routinely recommended for all patients, it may be beneficial in specific cases. Postoperative swelling is another common complication, and the application of local cold in the first 24 hours post-extraction is a recommended practice to reduce it.
