Abstract

Objective: to determine the impact of the rotation of nurses in the management of chemotherapy in the oncology department of a tertiary hospital. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: Of the total of 98 errors presented during this investigation, it was found that 40 of them were caused by nurses who had been working in the service for less than 11 months; 20 were caused by nurses with between 1 and 2 years of work; 24 errors were caused by nurses with between 3 and 4 years of work and 14 by nurses with more than 5 years of experience in the oncology service. Conclusion: It is determined, therefore, that there is a directly proportional impact between the high turnover of nurses and nurses coming from other hospital services without experience in the oncology area, related to the increase in the occurrence of errors and adverse events associated with the management of chemotherapy.
