Nursing intervention in the management of extravasation with cytostatic drugs in patients of onco-hematology

Objective: to determine the nursing staff's role in managing extravasation of cytostatic drugs in patients in the oncology and hematology departments. Method: The research was qualitative, descriptive, and applied. A literature review on the topic was conducted. Results: It was determined that the nurse's role begins with the rapid identification of extravasation symptoms, such as pain, decreased venous return, edema, or changes in skin color. Conclusion: the medical team should prepare to administer pharmacological treatment based on specific antidotes and apply physical measures such as heat or cold, depending on the nature of the extravasated cytostatic drug.
