Use of mini implants in the treatment of anterior open bite in adults

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of mini implants in the treatment of anterior open bite by means of molar intrusion. Methods: An exhaustive search was performed in electronic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, with keywords such as anterior open bite, mini implants, and posterior intrusion. The search was limited to articles in English, Spanish, and Portuguese since 2013, resulting in the review of 225 articles. Results: The literature reviewed indicated that mini implants are an effective option for the treatment of anterior open bite, using forces of 200 to 400 grams for molar intrusion, achieving successful bite closure. Conclusions: Mini implants represent an efficient alternative for correcting anterior open bite, especially by molar intrusion. The approach provides stability and good clinical results, highlighting its usefulness in both dental and skeletal cases.
