Objective: To analyze euthanasia and the right to a dignified death from a psychological perspective. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: Health care in contexts of irreversible illness should prioritize a comprehensive approach that encompasses not only social and human support, but also the emotional, spiritual and psychological aspects of patients. Although religion can offer important psychological support, its effectiveness is variable and not always sufficient to address the emotional complexity inherent in euthanasia. Therefore, it is critical that decisions around euthanasia be made on an individualized basis, respecting the patient's beliefs and preferences, and avoiding solutions such as active euthanasia and medically assisted suicide, which may be viewed as less humane and ethically questionable.
