Effects of eating disorders on the oral cavity

Objective: To analyze the effects of eating disorders on the oral cavity. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: The oral manifestations of eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, reveal significant impacts on oral health, from caries and dental erosion to problems in the salivary glands and soft tissues. This study underscores the importance of early diagnosis by dentists, who play a crucial role in identifying these early signs and collaborating in multidisciplinary teams for a comprehensive approach. However, the lack of awareness of these disorders in the dental setting highlights the urgent need for adequate training to implement effective treatment strategies. Despite the challenges, this analysis reinforces the need for early and coordinated interventions among healthcare professionals to improve the management and recovery of patients affected by these complex eating disorders.
