Abstract

Objective: To analyze orthognathic surgery in mandibular prognathism. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: Orthognathic surgery is intended not only for patients with severe facial deformities, but also for all patients with altered bite patterns due to misalignments of teeth and jaws that cannot be solved by an orthodontist alone. Orthognathic surgery can treat any problem caused by irregular facial bone growth that causes problems with bite, speech, sleep and aesthetics.
