Objective: To analyze the role of nursing staff in the safety of medication administration. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results: 26.32% of the nurses do explain the procedures on the administration of medication to patients and 73.68% do not explain the procedures due to lack of communication in the nurse-patient relationship. Conclusion: Regarding safety in the administration of medication to patients, there is a margin of deficiencies in this practice not due to the lack of knowledge of the professional nursing staff in pharmacology issues, and efficient application in the compliance of the correct ones, but rather these deficiencies are due to lack of responsibility, empathy, fortuitous case - emergency or deficit in the nurse-patient interrelationship.
