Objective: to evaluate the knowledge of nursing personnel on the administration of medications in intensive care patients in a hospital in cuenca - Ecuador. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results and Conclusion: There is no consensus on a general protocol for intravenous cannulation or drug administration, but 10 correct strategies can be used as basic guidelines and followed closely. Specification required by each agency and unit was added. No permanent or regular movement was found in these institutions, although the results suggest that training nurses in both knowledge and practice can improve their practice and reduce errors and potential adverse effects.
