Abstract

Objective: to identify the influential factors for Professional Burnout Syndrome in the medical personnel of the Red de Dispensarios Médicos Arquidiócesis de Guayaquil "REDIMA" (Network of Medical Clinics of the Archdiocese of Guayaquil). Method: Descriptive observational. Results: it was observed that 34% of the total population presented professional burnout, 17% of these were women and the same number of men; and 66% did not meet the burnout criteria. Conclusion: in the absence of medical errors, burnout culminates in a decrease in the quality of medical care because both general practitioners and specialists with symptoms of burnout report a reduction in empathy with the work and a decrease in the quality of patient care. This situation demonstrates how the problem of burnout syndrome should be addressed in the context of work, with the need to recognize that the problem exists and what its impacts are.
