Nursing role in the care of critically ill patients in intensive care units

Objective: to analyze the role of nursing in the care of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. Method: Systematic review of 18 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: Nursing, despite being a profession that allows improving the health status of patients, using knowledge and technical practices that contribute satisfactorily to work with any member of the health team, is currently still undervalued for independent care in which the nurse is the person who makes the decision in some procedures, whether or not of high complexity as in intensive care.
