Identification of burnout syndrome in critical care nursing personnel

Objective: to demonstrate the degree of professional exhaustion (Burnout Syndrome) that can occur in nursing staff who work in the critical care area of the "Alfredo Noboa Montenegro" hospital in the city of Guaranda during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Descriptive observational. Results: 50.0% of the surveyed nursing staff presented high emotional exhaustion during the COVID19 pandemic, obtaining values between 27 and 54 points. Conclusion: A notable prevalence of Burnout Syndrome (BS) was determined in nursing staff who worked in the critical care area during covi19, BS is higher in nurses, being older than 35 years was associated with a higher prevalence of suffering from the syndrome as opposed to those who did not suffer from it, the factors for which BS developed were the excessive demand of patients, the workload, the responsibility of saving lives.
