Abstract

Objective: To analyze the available scientific evidence on the use of mini-implants in the orthodontic treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusions. Materials and methods: A descriptive research with documentary design was carried out. Results: The review of the literature showed that mini-implants, as skeletal anchorage units, are effective in the distalization of molars and, therefore, in the orthodontic treatment of Class II malocclusion, demonstrating superior anchorage stability in comparison with other dental anchorage modalities. Conclusion: The use of mini-implants provides adequate skeletal anchorage necessary for the treatment of Class II malocclusion. However, it is important to know the influence of the forces applied to the system in order to design correct biomechanics and control possible collateral effects. In any case, the individual assessment of each patient is fundamental to guarantee the success of the treatment.
