Abstract

Objective: To analyze pulp damage due to microleakage in resin restorations in posterior teeth. Method: Bibliographic documentary type, 18 researches were scrutinized. Results: Polymerization shrinkage causes detachment of the enamel margins and/or gaps may form resulting in marginal microleakage which allows the passage of bacteria, fluids, molecules or ions between the cavity surface and composite resin. Conclusion: Microleakage is a process whereby bacterial invasion occurs due to permeability or gap that exists between the tooth surface and the restoration due to material shrinkage after polymerization, chewing forces or oral environment conditions, resulting in recurrent caries and pulpal pathology.
