Abstract

Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with oral lesions in general, and with dental lesions, which results are shown in the selected articles. Methods: Systematic review of 15 articles published in PubMed. Results and conclusions: The risk factors associated with dental caries in children and adolescents are: poor hygiene habits, consumption of cariogenic diets, orthodontic disorders such as crowding and, to a lesser degree, developmental disorders of dental enamel. In elderly patients it was found that changes in oral flora lead to factors such as xerostomia, polypharmacy, functional and cognitive impairment and oral ecological alterations.
