Cirugía ortognática como primer tratamiento para maloclusiones severas con discrepancia esqueletal

Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia y estabilidad a largo plazo del enfoque de Cirugía Primero (SFOA) en comparación con el Conventional Three-Stage Method (CTM) en el tratamiento de maloclusiones severas con discrepancia esqueletal. Método: Se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática, seleccionando 21 estudios relevantes de un total de 578 identificados. Resultados: Los resultados muestran que el SFOA puede reducir el tiempo de tratamiento y mejorar la percepción estética del paciente. Sin embargo, se observó una menor estabilidad a largo plazo en comparación con el CTM. Aunque el SFOA presenta ventajas en la reducción de molestias y tiempos de tratamiento, también se identificaron desafíos relacionados con la estabilidad esquelética y la recidiva. Conclusiones: La evaluación de la calidad de vida indica mejoras inmediatas en la estética facial con el SFOA, pero también resalta que la recidiva puede ser una preocupación mayor en este enfoque.
