Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study highlights the need to improve urban planning to maximize the potential of public spaces in the sustainable development of Quevedo, Ecuador. The objective was to quantitatively analyze the use of these spaces and their impact on the urban development of the city. The research combined direct observation techniques and surveys of the inhabitants, allowing the identification of usage patterns, perceptions of quality and safety, as well as suggestions for improvement. The results show that, although public spaces are frequented, most respondents consider them to be in poor condition due to lack of maintenance and deficient infrastructure. In addition, the perception of insecurity is high, which limits its use and appropriation. The activities carried out are mainly recreational and social, but there is a lack of adequate space for commercial and cultural activities. The main suggestions include improving infrastructure, increasing security and promoting more recreational activities.
