Abstract

Urban centers stand out for their diversity of activities and constant flow, reflecting the identity of a city and manifesting diverse scenarios of public spaces. This study analyzes the urban center of Piura, in northern Peru, which has unsociable, unsafe public spaces and a deteriorated urban image, where the automobile predominates, especially affecting pedestrians. The objective of the study is to measure the quality of public space and its relationship with pedestrian mobility in the center of the city of Piura, Peru. The study uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional correlational design, observes and evaluates each variable through the perception of 385 users by means of questionnaires. As a result, a significant, moderate and direct statistical relationship was obtained (R= 0.680 and R2= 0.4624), showing that variability in the quality of public space has a 0.6539 influence on the progress of pedestrian mobility.
