Abstract

Objectives: To interpret the main causes of mortality in pregnant women admitted to Critical Care Units. Method: Exploratory, observational, cross-sectional and retrospective systematic review study according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Scientific articles published in 2022 from MEDLINE, COCHRANE, SCIENCE DIRECT and SCOPUS databases were included. Results: From 560 initial articles, 27 were selected after exhaustive review. The main causes of mortality were postpartum hemorrhage (33.3%), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (37.22%) and sepsis (25%). The highest percentage of maternal deaths occurs in developing countries. Conclusions: Hypertensive disorders, postpartum hemorrhage and sepsis constitute the main causes of maternal death in obstetric ICUs, requiring strengthening of health systems to reduce these figures
