Objective: To analyze the prevalence and factors associated with self-medication during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to discuss the public health implications and possible strategies to mitigate this risky practice. Method: Documentary descriptive. Conclusion: The prevalence of self-medication during the COVID-19 pandemic has been considerably high, driven by factors such as fear of infection, lack of access to medical services and misinformation spread by social networks. This practice not only presents significant individual health risks, such as adverse effects and the development of drug resistance, but also poses public health challenges by complicating the management of the pandemic.
