Objective: To analyze oral health in older adults at the gerontological center in the Los Rosales sector of the city of Santo Domingo, Ecuador. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: 44% of the older adults stated that they take home remedies if they have any discomfort with their teeth, gums or prostheses, while 40% self-medicate, and 16% go to a dentist in general. From the compilation of the information it was found that 51% use removable dentures, while 24% have mixed prostheses, 23% have no prostheses at all and finally 2% have completely fixed dentures. Conclusion: Oral health in older adults residing in gerontological centers is fundamental to their general wellbeing and quality of life. The high incidence of oral diseases in this population highlights the urgency of implementing specific and personalized interventions.
