Abstract

Objective: To explain the impact of the consumption of sugary foods and drinks on the development of bacterial plaque as a determining factor in the production of dental caries and periodontal diseases. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: 84% of the people whose diet is based very frequently on carbohydrates, 91 people out of 108 consumed them, the next place was occupied by 12 people with 11% who consumed carbohydrates infrequently, the remainder were divided into not frequent and null consumption, these being 4 with 4% and 1 with 1% respectively. The consumption of vitamins A, B, C and D was analysed. Conclusion: It is highlighted that specifically in this study the consumption of vitamins is not a determinant factor in this population for these deficiencies, in addition to the fact that oral hygiene was not presented as an incident factor for oral health.
