Complications of self-medication in relation to oral antibiotic resistance

Objective: to characterize the complications of self-medication in relation to resistance to oral antibiotics in patients attending the Centro Médico del Patronato Provincial de Tungurahua del Ecuador. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results and conclusion: It was determined within the surveyed population of 35 patients who attended the Medical Center of the Patronato Provincial de Tungurahua, that the question was only answered by 21 patients, those who, if they self-medicate. We found that 61.9%, which represents 13 patients, did not present any medical complication after the consumption of oral antibiotics without medical prescription, while the remaining 38.1%, which represents 8 patients, have presented medical complications after the consumption of oral antibiotics without medical prescription, and some of them even went for consultation because of these complications caused by self-medication.
