Knowledge of the benefits of breastfeeding in mothers from 18 to 40 years old in the city of Ibarra

Abstract

Objective: To assess the knowledge of mothers about the benefits of breastfeeding in the city of Ibarra - Ecuador in the year 2023. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: 1% abandoned breastfeeding because of fear of physical changes in their bodies, especially in the breasts, 6% of mothers abandoned breastfeeding because of the time required for breastfeeding, 11% abandoned breastfeeding because of low milk productivity. Conclusion: Among the predominant associated factors for breastfeeding cessation the following were identified: working outside the home, insufficient knowledge of breast milk components, studies and discomfort during breastfeeding were among the highest percentages in this study.
