Objective: to analyze the nursing intervention to prevent delirium in patients in the intensive care unit. Method: A documentary review of 17 scientific articles was carried out. Results and conclusion: The importance of recognizing the characteristics of the different types of delirium has been described, as well as the identification of risk factors for the incidence of delirium in critically ill patients, both older adults / the elderly and pediatric patients in the Care Unit. Intensive (ICU) and finally nursing interventions to prevent delirium in critically ill patients were described, which include early mobilization, psychological support, active communication, adaptation of the environment, cognitive stimulation, and interaction with the family circle. These interventions have been classified as non-pharmacological treatments focused on reducing the incidence of delirium as well as minimizing its consequences if it develops.
