Caregiver overload of the elderly person

Objective: To identify the presence of role overload and associated negative experiences in a group of caregivers of dependent older adults in families in the Ingapirca parish, Ecuador. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results: It is shown that 92.5% (n=37) of the respondents are currently experiencing role overload, which shows the presence of the syndrome in these subjects, who also show most of the associated symptoms. Conclusion: Overload was present in almost all the subjects in the sample, whose main symptoms were the experience of role overload, considerable reduction of time for self-care, psychological tension and social distancing.
