Abstract

Objective: To analyze the body mass index of the fire department personnel of the Cañar canton - Ecuador. Methods: A non-probabilistic sample of 24 people working in this entity was taken, classified as under and over 40 years of age, assessed in their BMI, Cooper's test, and Wells and Dillon's test, in a descriptive, cross-sectional study. Results: They did not vary widely in the groups under and over 40 years of age, and, contrary to what might be thought, flexibility was better in the group over 40 years of age. Conclusion: The physical condition of the firefighters of this entity is not favorable in relation to the demands of their job, so it is necessary to apply training programs, nutritional and medical follow-up, in order to reach the necessary condition to face the demands of emergency care.
