Crisis of the penitentiary system in Ecuador

Abstract

The general objective of this research was to legally analyze the crisis of the penitentiary system in Ecuador; the approach taken by the researchers for the development of the methodology was based on the quantitative approach, through the investigation, collection and critical analysis of documents and bibliographic references, based on the methodical, rigorous and deep exploration of different documentary sources made up of articles, norms and laws, describing the findings. Documentary review was used as a research technique. It is concluded that political interference has denoted instability in the positions of directors of rehabilitation centers and departmental directors, thus limiting the development of social rehabilitation plans and programs. Prison overcrowding is a social problem, so the contributions that can be offered by the study conducted on the subject will undoubtedly become an important reference for the National Government.
