Abstract

Objective: Describe palliative care, good dying and euthanasia as they relate to the elderly in Latin America.  Method:  It was developed from a quantitative perspective using the documentary-bibliographic typology that helped to establish the analysis of the object of research. The material addressed was made up of refereed works, degree theses and scientific research, thus discovering the characteristics of the research object. Results: Palliative medicine considers that dying with dignity means living with dignity until the last moment. Conclusion: The demographic bonus of increasing life expectancy and decreasing birth rates has made leaders turn their attention to the elderly, but so have health care providers (public and private), families, insurers and pharmaceutical companies, and in this context the elderly is the ideal candidate for euthanasia, leaving aside palliative care and the good death.
