Objective: to analyze tympanism in cattle. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: Tympanism in cattle is a multifactorial condition that requires a comprehensive understanding of its causes, including anatomical, microbiological and environmental factors, for effective prevention and management. The studies reviewed highlight the importance of rapid intervention in acute cases, proper grazing management to avoid ingestion of toxic plants, and the potential of modulation of the rumen microbiome as a novel prevention strategy.
