Abstract

Objective: To analyze the clinical history of patients identified with cerebrospinal fluid as a diagnostic method for meningeal cryptococcosis in HIV patients at the Hospital Regional Docente de Ambato - Ecuador. Methods: Descriptive observational, the population was 155 patients of the Hospital Regional Docente de Ambato during the period 2018-2021. Results: There is a significant correlation between altered protein values and CD4 count (<0.01) whose increased values are associated with poor prognosis of meningeal cryptococcosis. Conclusion: Meningeal cryptococcosis in HIV patients remains a highly severe condition, marked by severe neurological symptoms such as headache and seizures, and associated with multifactorial risk factors, including antiretroviral inhibition and altered CD4 levels. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis is confirmed as an essential diagnostic tool, providing key biomarkers that correlate significantly with disease prognosis.
