Incidence of temporomandibular disorders in university students

Objective: To determine the incidence of temporomandibular disorders in university students. Method: Descriptive observational. Results and conclusion: Analysis of data on the incidence of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in university students reveals mixed results. Of the total number of students evaluated, 88% had no difficulty in opening the mouth, 10% experienced occasional difficulty and only 2% had constant difficulty. Regarding sideways jaw movement, 95% have no difficulty, 2% experience it occasionally and another 2% face this difficulty regularly. Regarding fatigue and pain during chewing, 71% have no symptoms, 24% report occasional fatigue and pain, and 5% experience it constantly. Headache, a common symptom associated with TMD, affects 52% of students occasionally and 5% regularly.
