Objective: To study the assessment of oral hygiene by means of the CEOD index in second childhood. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: By applying the CEOD and the CPOD it was possible to analyze that there was a prevalence of 83% of decayed teeth among the children evaluated, while 17% of them had no caries in their teeth. It was found that 50% of the students brushed their teeth once a day, 28% twice a day and 22% three times a day. Conclusion: Risk factors associated with the prevalence of decayed, extracted and filled teeth were diagnosed in third and fourth year children in the Vivian Luzuriaga Educational Unit, among which the low frequency of toothbrushing and visits to the dentist predominated, as well as a high number of children not brushing their teeth after consuming sweets.
