Objective: To determine the knowledge of pneumonia acquired in the ICU area in intubated patients versus the causes of poor oral hygiene in health personnel of the IEES Ambato-Ecuador hospital. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results: 87.5% (n=35) believe that oral care is very necessary in patients who are intubated in the ICU area and 12.5% (n=5) believe that oral care is necessary in patients who are intubated in the ICU area. Conclusion: Oral hygiene with chlorhexidine in combination with other strategies for oral hygiene care and prevention of intubated pneumonia should be included in ICU patient care, as well as increasing the knowledge of hospital staff for better quality management of ICU patients.
