Abstract

Objective: to analyze diabetes and its effects on oral health. Method: Descriptive documentary study, the population was 15 scientific articles published in PubMed. Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus, as a chronic metabolic disease, has a significant impact on the oral health of patients, manifesting in complications such as periodontal disease, dental caries, oral infections and taste dysfunction. These conditions are exacerbated by chronic hyperglycemia and associated xerostomia, affecting both tooth structure and oral tissue integrity. Oral complications not only impair quality of life but can also interfere with the overall management of diabetes by hampering glycemic control and patient self-care.
