Bone grafts used in cleft palate closure

Objective: To identify the bone grafts most commonly used in the closure of cleft palate through a review of the scientific literature. Method: Descriptive documentary, 15 articles published in PubMed, Scielo, Latindex 2.0 were analyzed. Results and conclusion: The preferred donor areas for the treatment of alveolopalatine clefts are the calotte, iliac crest and tibia, since they provide immunocompetent cells and generate significant amounts of cancellous bone. It has been determined that, in patients with mixed dentition, the use of secondary alveolar bone grafts provides great benefits in the treatment of alveolopalatine fissure closure.
