Clinical effect of laser as an adjunct to the treatment of chronic periodontitis

Abstract

Objective: to determine the clinical effects of laser as an adjunct to non-surgical treatment of chronic periodontitis. Method: Descriptive documentary, the population was 15 articles published in PubMed. Conclusion: It has been determined that the clinical effect of laser as an effective complement to the treatment of chronic periodontitis, significant improvements have been reported in clinical parameters such as: the reduction of the depth of periodontal pockets and the reduction of bacterial plaque or biofilm. Based on the studies investigated, it has been shown that this type of low frequency laser therapy can be used as an alternative therapy and in combination with scaling and root planning therapy.
