Objective: To analyze the relationship between halitosis and its impact on social anxiety due to the discomfort it can generate in the person who suffers from this trait. Method: Descriptive observational study, the population consisted of 202 undergraduate dental students at the University ‘UNIANDES’, Ambato. Results: 61.2% (n=235) of respondents reported having had halitosis at some point in their lives, although at the time of the study 83.9% (n=322) reported not feeling bad breath at the time. Conclusion: It was observed that halitosis causes insecurity and at the same time generates low self-esteem when communicating with other people, which is why the importance of further research into this condition is emphasized and, above all, the importance of visiting a dental professional as often as necessary to have a good control of oral health is highlighted.
