Objective: To analyze the use and knowledge of contraceptive methods in university students. Method: Descriptive documentary. Results and conclusion: Among the main causes of non-use of contraceptive methods are gender stereotypes, where the woman depends on her partner's approval, little knowledge of how to use contraceptives, little support from the partner and family regarding family planning, inappropriate sexual behaviors, sexual relations at an early age, religion and abandonment of contraceptives due to the same factors and added to this, the COVID-19 pandemic.
