Abstract

Objective: To analyze the oral hygiene habits that harm the oral health of children with Down syndrome. Method: Descriptive observational, the population was 40 people from the Specialized Educational Unit “Beatriz Jarrín” of the city of Ibarra in Ecuador, between 8 and 19 years old. Results and conclusion: 60% of the children participating in the research did not have adequate oral health care, that is, they did not know some essential oral hygiene habits that could prevent possible diseases. Likewise, 53% of children with DS did not go to the dentist frequently, which caused instability in the health of their oral cavity.
