Abstract

Objective: To carry out a comparative study of the bacterial plaque index in a public and a private school in Ecuador. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: According to O'Leary's index, data were obtained considering the totality of the sample corresponding to 118 students, where in the acceptable category, a result of 71.2% is visualized, in the questionable category, 19.5% is obtained and in the deficient category, 9.3% is accumulated, giving a total of 100%. Conclusion: The students of the educational unit of the city of Otavalo have a lower percentage of bacterial plaque index, so it is deduced that they have a greater knowledge about oral hygiene and good nutrition.
